John A. Christian

From Find-A-Grave: John was wounded in action at the battle of Gettysburg 3 Jul 1863 by a gunshot wound in the lung. He died from this wound 2 months later on 24 Sep 1863. According to his military papers, he was brought back to Tyler County, West Virginia where he was buried in the private cemetery of Grandon which is on private property today, on 25 Sep 1863. His tombstone has the date of his burial for his death date. John was the sole supporter of his mother Malinda to which she received a pension for his service until her death. Prior to the Civil War, John was a school teacher. Malinda is buried beside her son John. The father, John, had abandoned the family and headed to Kansas and was never seen again. He was buried in Kansas.

From Fold 3 (MSR):  Age 23, Height 5 feet, 9 1/2 inches.  Blue eyes, Dark hair, Dark Complexion.  Occupation:  School Teacher.  Born in Belmont Ohio to Malinda and John Christian.
